Industrial camera is a key component of machine vision system. Its most essential function is to transform optical signals into orderly electrical signals. The selection of appropriate camera is also an important link in the design of machine vision system. The selection of camera not only directly determines the image resolution and image quality, but also directly related to the operation mode of the whole system
Industrial cameras are also commonly known as industrial cameras. Compared with traditional civilian cameras (cameras), they have high image stability, high transmission capacity and high anti-interference ability. Most industrial cameras on the market are cameras based on CCD (charge coupled device) or CMOS (comprehensive metal oxide semiconductor) chips.
CCD is the most commonly used image sensor in machine vision. It integrates photoelectric conversion, charge storage, charge transfer and signal reading. It is a typical solid-state imaging device. The outstanding feature of CCD is that it takes charge as the signal, which is different from other devices in that it takes current or voltage as the signal. This kind of imaging device forms a charge packet through photoelectric conversion, and then transfers and amplifies the output image signal under the action of driving pulse. A typical CCD camera consists of optical lens, timing and synchronization signal generator, vertical driver and analog / digital signal processing circuit. As a functional device, CCD has the advantages of no burn, no lag, low voltage operation and low power consumption compared with vacuum tube.
The development of CMOS image sensor first appeared in the early 1970s. In the early 1990s, with the development of VLSI manufacturing technology, CMOS image sensor has developed rapidly. CMOS image sensor integrates photosensitive element array, image signal amplifier, signal reading circuit, analog-to-digital conversion circuit, image signal processor and controller on one chip. It also has the advantage of programming random access of local pixels. CMOS image sensor has been widely used in high-resolution and high-speed applications because of its good integration, low power consumption, high-speed transmission and wide dynamic range.
1. Resolution: the number of pixels of each image collected by the camera generally corresponds directly to the number of pixels of the photoelectric sensor for the digital camera, and depends on the video system for the analog camera. The PAL system is 768 * 576 and the NTSC system is 640 * 480. The analog camera has been gradually replaced by the digital camera, and the resolution has reached 6576 * 4384.
2. Pixel depth: that is, the number of bits of data per pixel. Generally, 8bit is commonly used. For digital cameras, 10bit, 12bit, 14bit, etc.
3. Maximum frame rate / line rate: the rate at which the camera collects and transmits images. For area array cameras, it is generally the number of frames per second (frames / sec.), and for linear array cameras, it is the number of lines per second (lines / sec.).
4. Exposure mode and shutter speed (shutter): linear array cameras are exposed line by line. You can select the acquisition mode of fixed line frequency and external trigger synchronization. The exposure time can be consistent with the line cycle or set a fixed time. Area array cameras have several common modes, such as frame exposure, field exposure and rolling line exposure. Digital cameras generally provide the function of external trigger acquisition. The shutter speed is one Generally, it can reach 10 microseconds, and the high-speed camera can be faster.
5. Pixel size: pixel size and pixel number (resolution) jointly determine the size of the camera target. The pixel size of digital camera is 3 μ m~10 μ m. Generally, the smaller the pixel size, the greater the manufacturing difficulty, and the less easy it is to improve the image quality.
6. Spectral range: refers to the sensitivity of the pixel sensor to different light waves. The general response range is 350nm-1000nm. Some cameras add a filter in front of the target to filter out infrared light. If the system needs to be sensitive to infrared, the filter can be removed. [1]
